Armenian-American hard rock heroes System of a Down (aka SOAD) had released five critically acclaimed albums and toured with metal legends Slayer, Metallica, Slipknot and Rammstein before announcing an indefinite period of ‘hiatus’ in 2006. Now reunited, SOAD are hitting the road once more. Be warned – System of a Down tickets will sell fast.
Taking their name from a poem written by their guitarist Daron Malakian the fledgling SOAD recorded four demo tapes between 1995 and 1997. The fourth tape caught the ear of legendary producer Rick Rubin and the band joined American/Columbian records, through which they released their first, self-titled album.
System of a Down the album spawned two popular singles ‘Sugar’ and ‘Spider’ and the band embarked on an extensive tour, opening for Slayer and Metallica. Greater success followed when SOAD’s second album Toxicity entered both the American and Canadian album charts at number 1 in 2001. The band toured throughout North America and Mexico before releasing, in 2002, a third album Steal This Album! comprising unreleased material from the Toxicity recordings.
SOAD’s fourth and fifth albums, Mesmerize and Hypnotize were released six months apart in 2005 and 2006. Both entered the American album charts at number 1, making SOAD one of the few acts to have two albums debut at number 1 within twelve months.
That was 2006. Now, after an extended break, System of a Down are back to delight and deafen their devoted fans as they showcase their unique Grammy-winning hard rock on a brand new tour.
